Individual Credential

Accredited Reproductive Health Professional (ARHP)

The ARHP credential is the entry-level individual accreditation for early-career healthcare professionals working in or transitioning into reproductive health and assisted reproductive technology settings — formally recognising foundational clinical competence, professional commitment, and readiness to practise within a supervised reproductive healthcare environment.

Standards

Eligibility & Assessment Criteria

  • A recognised undergraduate degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in nursing, midwifery, biomedical science, healthcare science, reproductive biology, pharmacy, medicine, or a closely related health or life science discipline from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 1 year of verifiable clinical or laboratory experience in a reproductive health, fertility, gynaecology, obstetrics, or assisted reproductive technology (ART) setting — including placements, internships, rotations, or supervised practice accrued following completion of the qualifying degree or diploma
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge of reproductive anatomy and physiology, the menstrual cycle, gamete biology, fertilisation, and early embryonic development, evidenced through academic transcripts, professional training records, or a structured knowledge assessment
  • Basic familiarity with the clinical and laboratory processes involved in assisted reproductive technologies, including an understanding of ovarian stimulation protocols, egg collection, sperm preparation, embryo culture, embryo transfer, and cryopreservation — at a level appropriate to the applicant's professional role and scope of practice
  • Evidence of patient-facing or patient-support experience in a reproductive health context, including patient communication, consent processes, clinical documentation, and the provision of emotionally sensitive care to individuals and couples undergoing fertility investigation or treatment
  • Demonstrated awareness of reproductive health ethics, including principles of informed consent, patient autonomy, confidentiality, the welfare of the child, and the ethical considerations specific to gamete donation, surrogacy, and embryo storage and disposition
  • Completion of, or active enrolment in, a recognised continuing professional development (CPD) programme, short course, postgraduate module, or specialist training relevant to reproductive health, fertility nursing, embryology, or reproductive medicine — demonstrating commitment to professional growth in the field
  • A professional reference from a supervising clinician, laboratory director, fertility nurse specialist, reproductive medicine consultant, or senior healthcare professional who can attest to the applicant's clinical conduct, professional attitude, foundational competence, and suitability for accreditation
  • Demonstrated understanding of infection control, laboratory safety, and clinical governance principles as they apply to reproductive health and ART settings, including awareness of relevant national and international regulatory standards (e.g. ESHRE guidelines, HFEA Code of Practice, or equivalent national authority)
  • A personal statement of professional intent (minimum 300 words) outlining the applicant's career goals within reproductive healthcare, their motivation for seeking ECPA accreditation, and their commitment to ongoing professional development, ethical practice, and patient-centred care in the field of reproductive medicine

Who Is This For?

The ARHP credential is designed for early-career and developing healthcare professionals who are building their expertise in reproductive health and assisted reproductive technology. It is particularly suited to: newly qualified nurses, midwives, and healthcare scientists who have begun working in fertility clinics, reproductive medicine units, or gynaecology departments and wish to obtain formal recognition of their foundational competence; biomedical science and healthcare science graduates who are undertaking their first clinical or laboratory roles in an ART or reproductive health setting; junior embryologists and embryology trainees who are in the early stages of their laboratory career and are not yet eligible for the ACE credential; pharmacists, allied health professionals, and medical graduates who are rotating through or specialising in reproductive medicine and wish to formalise their professional standing in the field; internationally trained reproductive health professionals who are new to a country or healthcare system and wish to establish a recognised professional credential as a foundation for further career development; and healthcare professionals from adjacent specialties — including endocrinology, urology, andrology, and general practice — who are transitioning into reproductive health roles and require a structured, recognised entry point into the field. The ARHP credential serves as a professional foundation and a stepping stone towards higher ECPA individual credentials, including the ACE, ARMS, and AMCE designations, as the applicant's experience and expertise develop over time.
